Sophie's Kitchen is a small dining room that does three things properly: an all-day brunch menu cooked to order, a full high tea service with loose-leaf pots and a stand built that morning, and cakes baked in the same kitchen and sold whole or by the slice. Nothing arrives frozen and nothing sits for a week.
The brunch and lunch menu runs all day: eggs any style with our potato hash, bennington with hollandaise made that morning, french toast in three versions, power bowls and salads built to order, and sandwiches on bread baked here. Weekday mornings are calm; weekends are busy from about ten, so an early table or a booking is the sensible move.
High tea runs in two-hour sittings, booked in advance. Each guest chooses from a full loose-leaf tea list and gets their own pot; each table gets a three-tier stand of savouries, warm scones with clotted cream and preserves, and pastry from our own kitchen. Dietary changes are easy with a couple of days' notice.
Whole cakes are made to order for birthdays, showers and office parties, and the same cakes are sold by the slice at the counter so you can try before committing. Gift cards are available in any amount and never expire — the simplest present for someone who already owns everything.
